Universities In England

There are various prestigious universities in England. Many of which are some of the oldest universities in international history. Ranking first in the list of universities in England, categorized by age, is the University of Oxford. Worldwide the University of Oxford is still one of the oldest universities ranking in at number two.

Many people refer to the United Kingdom and Great Britain as simply England. However, this is a common mistake that should always be corrected, whenever making statistical documents such as a ranking list of the top UK universities. England is a country within itself. Great Britain refers to both England and Scotland as a whole. And The United Kingdom is comprised of England, Scotland, Whales, and Northern Ireland.

The most renowned British universities are The University of Cambridge, The University of Oxford, University College London, and Imperial College London, in precisely that order. The University of Cambridge is also at the top of the UK university ranking. Kings College London ranks in at fifth place. Although this university is in a lower position on the roster, it makes an impressive jump on an entirely other list. Kings College London was founded by King George the IV and the Duke of Wellington in the year 1829. This places Kings College London in third place on the roster listings of the oldest universities in England. Currently ten Nobel Prizes have been awarded to the alumni and faculty of Kings College London. On an international scale however, Kings College London is ranked at number 63 according to the 2010 Academic Ranking of World Universities. This university offers five convenient campuses, all of which have remarkable and historical facades. For the past ten years over $550 million dollars have been dedicated to the restoration of its extraordinary architecture, and the works of art it displays such as the Classical Sculpture of Sappho located in the King’s Building, at the Strand Campus.

Undoubtedly attending a university in the United Kingdom will earn a graduate a credible reputation. Witnessing age old architecture and historical class rooms, will instill a sense of culture, and ensure a student will end their studies as an educated and well respected representative of the university. There are other alternatives to the highly ranked British universities. Harvard University is the oldest university in the Unites States, established in 1636. It is the cornerstone of Cambridge, Massachusetts and one of the most famous names in history. British Universities may sometimes be preferred over American universities.  However, if an individual does not want to attend any of the prestigious universities in England, they can take a gander at Harvard University, and still be highly regarded as an expert in their field, and highly educated.
